RightsCon Director

The RightsCon team is excited to officially introduce Alejandro Mayoral Baños, Access Now’s new Executive Director, to the RightsCon community! Here are a few words from Alejandro, who will be joining us for his 7th summit at RightsCon 2025 in Taipei (February 24-27):

“I’m thrilled to connect with you all! My RightsCon journey began in Toronto in 2018, and since then, I’ve had the privilege of participating in six past RightsCon gatherings. These experiences, including co-leading the Indigenous Working Group, have deepened my appreciation for the importance of this space as a platform for collaboration, innovation, and advocacy in the digital rights community.”

A longtime RightsCon community member

Before stepping into the role of Executive Director at Access Now, Alejandro served as the Executive Director and Founder of the Indigenous Friends Association, an Indigenous-led nonprofit committed to bridging the gap between Indigenous communities and digital technologies.

Since joining his first RightsCon in Toronto as a participant, Alejandro has actively engaged with the community in multiple roles, including as a program committee member, facilitator, and speaker. In particular, since moderating the Solve My Problem session on Indigenous Data Sovereignty at RightsCon Tunis, Alejandro has championed the Indigenous Working Group for RightsCon, leading to a significant increase in Indigenous participation.

Looking ahead to RightsCon 2025 and Beyond

Last November, Alejandro joined members of the RightsCon team in Taipei, touring our venue, meeting with civil society organizations and government officials to strengthen our multi-stakeholder mission, all toward the goal of supporting preparations for our upcoming summit.

“Since his first RightsCon, Alejandro has been an active community member, investing his time, energy, and expertise in supporting the program and inviting in new perspectives. As a result, he deeply understands the needs and goals of our community, and I’m excited to see his impact on RightsCon 2025 and beyond.”
